ROCK FOR PRIDE
|
Rock for Pride has been a major part of Foyle Pride since it was relaunched in 2007. Each year the main fundraisiing event of the Pride festival has got bigger and bigger. This year a staggering array of local talent will entertain you in the magnificent Sandino's venue. An eclectic mix of music to appeal to everyone, young or old, gay or straight has painstakingly been assembled for this now legendary event. Kicking off the nig...ht will be local heavy metal heroes Hybris. Inspired by the likes of Metallica, this young group from Derry have romped home in every ' Battle of the Bands,' competition they have graced. If scorching metal guitars is your thing then get down early to see these future superstars. Next up is something completely different. The magnificent Teknopeasant, a punk poet, with low slung banjo, singing fucked up folk.Ranting against the great injustices of the day, his brilliant new EP the Raw Deal, is available to buy or download and should be owned by every right thinking citizen. The Wonder Villains are without doubt one of the most talked about young bands in the UK and Ireland at the minute. Having already played at a BBC Radio 1's One Big Weekend event to 1000s of people, they recently starred at the Glasgowbury Festival. Infectious, clever, sparkling nuggets of pop genius are guaranteed to pack the dance floor. The last two years for Paddy Nash and his Happy Enchiladas has been extraordinary. Paddy has played the biggest music festival in the world; Glastonbury, getting 1000s of people singing along in the Leftfield tent to his homage to English punk/folk legend Billy Bragg's trousers. The band have toured England, playing the famous Hope and Anchor venue, following in the footsteps of the Clash. They have played to 1000s at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and had tracks from their album played by Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2. Paddy's razor wire wit shines through in the songs, the Enchiladas shoot from the hip and deliver folk music the way it should be. To finish the night we have the mainstay of Rock for Pride. A band that Foyle Pride owes a huge debt of gratitude to. Future Chaser have played at every Rock for Pride gig since we started four years ago. Punk-Pop, catchy as crabs but only leaving your feet itchin' to dance. The band are currently blasting out of your tv screens a dozen times a night with their single Look Around being used in a Northern Ireland Tourist Board ad. The lads are just back from a quick UK tour and are in top form to bring the curtain down on the 4th annual Rock for Pride. See you all there. It is £5 to get in if you can afford it £3 if you can't. All proceeds go back into Foyle Pride.See more |
Sole Purpose Productions in association with The Rainbow Project and Derry City Council presents

Galatea by Lawrence Aronovitch
Directed by Patricia Byrne
Tues 23rd August at 8pm in the Playhouse
A fresh look at the Pygmalion legend from a gay perspective, Galatea sees Harry, a middle-aged painter, develop a 'liking' for Eli,
the young model who poses for him. Georgie, Harry's long term partner, is a bit jittery. This clever and entertaining play is about love, loyalty,
infidelity, marriage, class and art. The cast are trainee actors associated with The Rainbow Project, a support organisation for the gay community.
The performance will be followed by a short Q+A with the writer and cast. There will be a wine reception at 7.15pm. All are welcome.
